Meet the Midwives

Our practice is grounded in the belief that birth unfolds best when mothers feel safe, heard, and supported. We prioritize genuine relationships with the families we serve, offering care that’s warm, continuous, and rooted in truly knowing our clients. Working as a team allows us to give each family the time and attention they deserve. We bring the flexibility and availability to respond thoughtfully to individual needs, providing guidance and support that’s timely, attentive, and personalized.

You'll get to know us both over the course of your pregnancy, since we do most prenatal visits together. And, as your birth approaches, you'll feel the peace that comes with knowing that your birth team really knows you.

About Jen

I became interested in natural childbirth while I was pregnant with my first child, Abigail. At the time, my husband and I took Bradley® classes and I gave birth at a birth center in San Diego, California. Shortly after having Abigail, I decided that I wanted to become a Bradley® teacher myself because of how well prepared, both physically and mentally, I'd felt for birth and how empowered I'd felt afterwards. I taught my first class while I was pregnant with my second child, Noah, who was born via cesarean in the hospital. Shorty after I began teaching, I also began attending births. I loved supporting women and completed doula training while still living in California.

After moving to Fort Mill, South Carolina I had two more children, Lucy and Micah, both born at home with a midwife. My VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) was a very healing experience that furthered my desire to help and empower women to trust their bodies and birth naturally. I began assisting a home birth midwife in 2009 and continued to do so for many years. In 2017, once my youngest child was school-aged, I completed an apprenticeship and midwifery school and became a Certified Professional Midwife and a SC Licensed Midwife in 2019.

My background in birth work stretches to the infancy of my first child, who is all grown up now. I've been offering Bradley Method Childbirth classes and acting as a doula for over 20 years, worked as a birth assistant for over 15 years, and have been proud to offer midwifery services to mothers who would like a home birth through my own practice, Carolina Wildflower Birth for the past 6 years.

About Julia

I’ve always understood pregnancy and birth as experiences with the potential to have a powerful impact on a woman’s life. However, it wasn’t until I had my first home birth that I truly understood how transformative they could be. My first two children were born in the hospital in 2014 and 2016. Though their births were both positive experiences (and gave me the boys who made me a mother!) I knew as soon as my second was born that I wanted something different in the future.

When I became pregnant with my daughter in 2019, I sought care with a midwife who taught me a great deal about how to care for myself and my baby, and who empowered me to take responsibility for my own choices and experience in ways that felt new to me. My daughter’s birth shifted my sense of self and my path forward in life and soon after I started midwifery school.

While in school, I began teaching childbirth classes as a certified Bradley Method instructor and attended births as a doula and birth assistant. I also continued to volunteer as a La Leche League leader and had my final baby in the spring of 2022.  Later the same year, I began attending prenatal appointments, births, and postpartum visits with Jen, and continued to show up until she forgot that she could tell me not to.  After completing my apprenticeship with Jen, I became a CPM and a licensed South Carolina Midwife in 2025.

Outside of midwifery, my greatest joy is spending time with my husband and four children, Hank, Louie, Georgia and Ziggy.

Jen and Julia gave us the best care!!! As a first-time mom, I was educated every step of the way. They gave me honest and informed consent throughout my pregnancy. I had the most incredible birth and was given full guidance and love from them. The postpartum care was amazing. I feel so blessed to have these women help us start our lives with our son. A life-changing experience.
