About Jen Kitchton, CPM, LM
Birthing naturally has always captivated me — and I believe it can captivate you too.
I became interested in natural childbirth while I was pregnant with my first child. At the time, my husband and I took Bradley® classes and I gave birth at a birth center in San Diego, California. Shortly after having my first, I decided that I wanted to become a Bradley® teacher myself because of the way it prepared me mentally and physically for birth. I took the training and taught my first class while I was pregnant with my second child who was born via cesarean in the hospital. I have been teaching now for over 15 years!
Once I began teaching, I also began attending births. That eventually grew into me going through doula training and becoming a doula. I have since been attending births as a doula in hospital, birth center, and home births since 2007. |
After moving to Fort Mill, South Carolina I had two more children, both born at home with a midwife. My VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) was a very healing experience for me and furthered my desire to help and empower women to trust their bodies and to empower them to birth naturally. I began assisting a home birth midwife and have continued to do so over the years. I completed an apprenticeship and midwifery school and became a Certified Professional Midwife, a Licensed Midwife, and am able to offer midwifery services to mothers who would like a home birth.
Other than all things birth related, I love reading, working out, playing pickle ball, listening to podcasts, going on walks, and spending time with my family and friends.
Credentials, Licensing and Regulation:
I am a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) through NARM, The North American Registry of Midwives. I am a Licensed Midwife (LM) through the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC). I have my Midwifery Bridge Certificate (MBC) which is awarded to midwives who complete an additional 50 accredited approved continuing education hours that address emergency skills in pregnancy, birth, postpartum and newborn care. I received my schooling from Ancient Art Midwifery through the Pure Birth Midwifery School for Advanced Midwifery Studies. I apprenticed over the course of 10 years with 3 area midwives where I was blessed to learn so many skills from wonderful midwives. I continue my education through classes, workshops, midwifery retreats, and trainings. I am certified in NRP, Neonatal Resuscitation of the Newborn, ALSO (Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics), and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers.
