To be a midwife means to be with women.

And that's exactly what I do.

I stand with you through every step of your pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum care to make sure you have the most empowering experience possible.
As a midwife, I believe that pregnancy and birth are incredibly natural processes. I believe that both you and your family are the best decision makers for your body and your baby and that my job is to simply guide and educate you through the process.

I subscribe to the following beliefs of the Midwifery Model of Care in order to provide my clients with the most empowering pregnancy and birth experiences. The Midwives Model of Care is based on the fact that pregnancy and birth are normal life processes and includes:

  • Monitoring the physical, psychological, and social well being of the mother throughout the childbearing cycle
  • Providing the mother with individualized education,  counseling, and prenatal care, continuous hands-on  assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum support
  • Minimizing technological interventions
  • Identifying and referring women who require obstetrical  attention

Prenatal Care

I offer individualized, comprehensive and  holistic prenatal care out of my office in Fort Mill, South Carolina. A typical visit includes nutritional counseling, vitals, measurements, listening to fetal heart tones, urinalysis, any necessary lab work, and preparations for your birth. Visits last on average 45 minutes to 1 hour. This allows us to get to know one another on a much deeper level which I believe is so important in good Midwifery care. Children and family members are welcome. Prenatal visits are held every 4 weeks until 28 weeks, every 2 weeks until 36 weeks, and every week thereafter until birth. Your 36 week visit is done in your home.

Home Birth

I offer birth support from the time I arrive at your home when you are in active labor, until 2-3  hours after delivery, following immediate postpartum care, breastfeeding support and a full  newborn exam.

Once born, your baby will go directly into your arms, skin to skin, and the cord will not be cut until it has stopped pulsing.  Any necessary assessments will be done with your baby in your arms.  If dad would like to catch the baby he is welcome to and I will be right there should he need any help.  I also bring an assistant to every birth who is trained in CPR and Neonatal Resuscitation.

Beyond your birth kit, I have my own equipment and supplies that I bring to your  home.  These include things such as oxygen, herbs, resuscitation equipment and instruments for cutting the umbilical cord.

Water Birth

Many moms love laboring and/or delivering in water as a natural way to manage pain.

As a part of my services, I offer a La Bassine inflatable tub (with pump to drain post-birth) to moms interested in a water birth. If you are interested in having a water birth, you will just need to order a few extra items in your birth kit to make it possible.

Newborn Care

After your baby is born I will perform an initial newborn exam after 1-2 hours of mother/baby bonding. At your 24-36 hour visit I also perform a CCHD screening, and a PKU screening or newborn screen. I continue newborn care at each postpartum visit. I recommend taking your child to a pediatrician or family practice sometime in the first month of life.

Postpartum Care

Beyond immediate care,  you will receive a 24-36 hour visit, a 3-5 day visit, 1 week visit, and a 2 week follow-up all in the comfort of your home. I provide care for you as well as your baby during these visits. I also offer breastfeeding support and resources to help you. I will see you for one final 6 week visit either at your house or at my office. I am also available via text, email, or phone call throughout your postpartum.

Labs and Ultrasound

All routine prenatal labs can be done in office or referred out. Ultrasounds are available for referral out.

I offer information including risks and benefits of each test to help you make informed decisions regarding your personal care.
